Obituary for Maureen Elizabeth Hymer

Maureen Elizabeth (Begley) Hymer age 84 of Berea, Kentucky, beloved wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who adored and was adored by her family, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky. She was born March 26, 1932 in Chavies, Kentucky to the late Amerida and Minta (Gay) Begley and attended Berea College. Maureen was a member of the First Christian Church of Berea, was active in church organizations, and loved singing in the choir. She served as accountant for the family business, Hymer Ford Sales and Service of Berea, First Christian Church and the New Coon Creek Girls. Maureen belonged to the Berea Country Club and Women's Golf League, an accomplished golfer and past club champion. She was one of a few to ever have a hole in one on # 5 at Berea Country Club. Maureen was an avid University of Kentucky sports fan, and previously was an active member of Berea Younger Women's Club and loved to garden.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers and sisters: William Begley, Ira J. Begley, Reed Begley, Opal Begley Eversole and Jeanette Begley Napier.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years Wayne Hymer, daughter Vicki Lynn Simmons of Berea, son Steven Wayne Hymer and daughter-in-law Lynn (Despard)Hymer of Richmond, Kentucky and sister-in-law Norma Hurley Begley of Somerset, Kentucky. Also surviving are grandchildren Cristina (Cristi) Elizabeth Simmons and James (Jay) Landon Simmons and wife Summer (Smith) Simmons, great grandchildren Meghan Paige Smith, James Reece Smith, Avery Nicole Simmons, and Saylor James Simmons all of Berea, Kentucky and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 14, 2017at the First Christian Church of Berea, conducted by the Reverend Mark Caldwell-Reiss. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Monday, March 13, 2017 at the church. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Davis and Powell Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Maureen's name, to Hospice Care Plus, Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Lane Richmond, KY 40475 or The Buckhorn Church at 300 Buckhorn Lane Buckhorn, KY 41721. The family extends their most heartfelt appreciation to the Hospice staff for the care and compassion given to Maureen.
