Obituary for Hugh Thomas Cary

Hugh Thomas “Tom” Cary, age 78, widower of Joyce Ann Harlow Cary, died Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Willows of Hamburg in Lexington. Mr. Cary was born in Burkesville, Kentucky on November 3rd, 1938 to the late Creed Alexander & Ola Ethel Spear Cary. He was a retired Master Sargent from the U. S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division. He was also retired from GTE. Mr. Cary enjoyed cooking, fishing, and gardening, and was a member of the Baumholder, Germany Military Mason and Shriner Lodge #144 F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Berea Baptist Church.
Mr. Cary is survived by a sister, Nelda (Clayton) Shannon of Louisville, Kentucky; his twin daughters, Vicki (Mike) Hinkle of Trabuco Canyon, California, and Nikki (Steve) Ballard of Riverside, California; and his stepchildren, Teresa (Jay) Webb of Berea, Kentucky, and Tony (Alissa) French of Highland Park, Illinois. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Matt Hinkle of Phoenix, Arizona, Bryan Hinkle of Trabuco Canyon, California, Candice Hinkle of Provo, Utah, Ryan and Cassidy Ballard of Riverside, California, Chase Ballard of Irvine, California, Laura Webb of Lexington, Kentucky, and Kaley and Jake French of Highland Park, Illinois, who will be pallbearers and honorary pallbearers, along with nephew Parker Shannon of Georgetown, Kentucky.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky with full military honors and Rev. Kevin Slemp officiating; visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 5-8 pm at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home. The family has requested that in memoriam donations be made to the Lexington, Kentucky Shriner’s Hospital for Children in lieu of flowers.
